After having a mixed start to his 2026 part-time schedule, with a podium finish in Monte Carlo and retirement in Kenya, Ogier has finally notched his first win of the season at the WRC’s Rally Islas Canarias.

The nine-time world champion had controlled his way to victory for the most part, after taking the lead on Friday, but it looked like victory may slip away as his teammate, Oliver Solberg, started to chip away at his lead.

However, it was not to be as Solberg – who had cut the lead down to 2.2 seconds – crashed on the penultimate stage of the event, retiring on the side of the road after hitting an armco barrier at a right-hand bend.

In the end, it meant Ogier had secured the win, leading a Toyota 1-2-3, x seconds ahead of Elfyn Evans and Sami Pajari, who claimed his fourth consecutive podium finish spanning from Sweden to the Canary Islands.

Having secured maximum Super Sunday and Wolf Power Stage points, it means Evans now takes over as the WRC championship leader, on 101 points, demoting Takamoto Katsuta to second place (99pts).

Adrien Fourmaux was the leading driver outside the Toyotas, leading the South Korean trio ahead of Thierry Neuville and Daniel Sordo, rounding out the top seven from fifth to seventh, respectively.

However, the French Hyundai driver did not score any points on the Wolf Power Stage, despite finishing ahead of Neuville on the clock initially. This was due to a jump start at the beginning of the final stage, earning him a 10-second penalty.

As the Toyotas started clocking their own stage times, it knocked the Frenchman out of the top five on the power stage. Fortunately for Fourmaux, the penalty did not change the overall classification, and he retained his top-five finish for Hyundai.

In the teams championship, Toyota extended its championship lead to 265 points, 98 points ahead of its closest championship rival, Hyundai (167pts).

The action will now head to mainland Europe for Rally Portugal, which will get underway May 7 – 10, 2026.
