Sebastien Ogier had taken the lead of the rally early on in the morning, jumping to the top of the timing boards after the opening stage of the day (SS2).

The nine-time world champion extended his rally lead to 5.9 seconds ahead of Toyota teammate Sami Pajari. But, after the afternoon loop, Ogier had increased that lead to 8.9 seconds ahead of Oliver Solberg, who had overtaken Pajari for second place.

Pajari remains within podium contention, but a win looks to be slipping away as he sits 15.9 seconds adrift of Ogier’s leading time. A seven-second gap also separates him from Solberg.

Elfyn Evans sits fourth ahead of the championship leader, Takamoto Katsuta, in fourth and fifth, respectively, as the Japanese squad lock out the top five positions in the overall standings.

Day two was not without issue, though, as the action was reduced on Friday.

Friday was planned with seven stages in mind, a three-stage loop which would be run in the morning and the afternoon, with the stadium super-special stage closing out proceedings.

However, the third stage of the event – Friday’s second stage – was cancelled due to ‘wrongly parked’ cars which belonged to spectators, that needed to be cleared away. Thankfully, the stage was finally run in the afternoon.
