The Australian Grand Prix has long been the championship’s traditional season opener, and is almost iconic in that position, like Monte Carlo is for the World Rally Championship.
Australia’s F1 race will also be the event’s first back-to-back race as the season-opening round, since 2011 to 2019, following Bahrain previously holding that placeholder in 2021 to 2023.
Last season saw a mostly dry weekend last year, with all practice and qualifying under dry conditions. But the race was turned around with wet conditions, with six drivers retiring from the grand prix following accidents on the dampened circuit.
However, according to BBC Weather, the weather seems to be more favourable for the teams and drivers this year.
Friday
The opening day of the 2026 season will see sun with a bit of cloud across the day before the sun comes out in the evening. There is a slight chance of rain with it forecast at 14% at 11am.
Temperatures are set to range from highs of 22° and lows of 14°
Saturday
When the weekend starts to head into the business end of the event, there will be some cloud in the morning, with light cloud casting over the area in the afternoon. The chance of rain remains low, around 7%.
Temperatures are set to be slightly lower with highs of 21° and lows of 13°.
Sunday
Race day is expected to be the warmest of the event, with the sun out all day providing high levels of UV, according to the BBC. Temperatures are expected to be as high as 26° and as low as 15°.
There is currently no rain forecast for race day, so the weekend should be dry.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
