Thursday’s running resumed as planned at 10am Local time, under the Middle Eastern sun, and the morning’s running marks the start of the penultimate day of Formula 1’s pre-season test in Bahrain.
After two hours, Norris was the fastest driver out on track with a time of 1m 33.453s. Of the top three, behind Norris, the four-time world champion of Verstappen occupied second, ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell in third.
The top three were separated by a maximum of six-tenths, with Verstappen being much closer, only a tenth off the best of the McLarens pacesetting time.
Despite two hours being completed, it was a bit of a quiet run as the teams quietly worked on their programmes and test runs.
However, Ferrari had caught some attention on the test with their rear wing. It was identified that the team had brought a unique rear wing that rotates on itself, so it runs the rear wing upside down when the active aero is in use.
As it currently stands, Russell is the driver with the most mileage across the day so far. The Briton currently has 39 laps under his belt, the most of the 10 drivers who have set a lap time.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Cadillac’s Valtteri Bottas have not had much time out on track, with only five laps completed for each of them. Additionally, Bottas has yet to set a lap time on the board after two hours.
Top three
- Lando Norris, McLaren 1m 33.453s
- Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing +0.131s
- George Russell, Mercedes +0.658s
