The WRC heads east this weekend for the penultimate round of the 2025 campaign, towards the Land of the Rising Sun for Rally Japan, in what stands as one of the closest championship fights in recent WRC history.
As it currently stands, Toyota’s Elfyn Evans reigns as the current championship leader with 247 points to his name, having overtaken his teammate – and championship rival, Sebastien Ogier in the Central European Rally last time out.
Ogier remains in the fight but is accompanied by his teammate, Kalle Rovanpera, in the chase for the driver’s title, with both drivers joint on 234 points, both standing 13 points behind.
Hyundai’s Ott Tanak remains within contention of the championship but stands as an outsider in the title fight. Heading to Japan, the Estonian stands 50 points away from the championship contender, with only 70 points still available to collect.
Japan is notoriously challenging, with narrow, technical sections, and this is compounded by the fact that some areas can remain damp in forested areas, adding variable grip conditions to the already-tricky event.
According to AccuWeather, the conditions could play a significant role in the event and the championship fight. Here is the weather report for Rally Japan.
Thursday
Conditions on the opening day of the weekend will be sunny with highs of 23° and lows of 7°. There is no chance of rain with the forecast placing it on zero
Friday
The first full day of running will endure broken intervals of sun, with temperatures as high as 22° and as low as 8°. Again, there is no chance of rain.
Saturday
It is expected to be mostly sunny on the third day of action, with highs of 20° and lows of 12°. However, Saturday is the first day with some chance of rain, albeit minimal, as the meteorologists predict an 8% chance of rain.
Sunday
The final day of the event is expected to be the wettest with showers and then ‘steadier rain’ expected. Temperatures will be as high as 20° on the final day, with lows of 14°.
However, there is a great chance of rain, standing at 79%.
