FIA grant permission for Isack Hadjar to race at US Grand Prix
19th October 2025The FIA has granted Racing Bull’s Isack Hadjar permission to race in the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix after failing to set a lap time in qualifying on Saturday.

Hadjar failed to set a lap time in the first third of qualifying for the US Grand Prix, on Saturday afternoon, after the French driver crashed out of qualifying on his first timed run.
The Frenchman lost control of his car as he swung through the esses in sector one, as the back end of his car slipped out and sent him into a spin. He was unable to slow the car down and crashed into the barrier at high speed.
As Hadjar did not set a lap time, he was unable to set a lap within the 107% requirement, a safety benchmark to ensure all drivers are capable of driving fast enough to not risk harm for themselves or others.
However, the FIA has confirmed, following a request from Racing Bulls, that the French driver will be granted permission to start the race on Sunday. They said:
“The Stewards have received a request from Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team to allow Car 6 to start the Race despite failing to set a lap time in Q1.
“In accordance with Article 39.4 b) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, the Stewards grant permission for Car 6, Isack Hadjar, to start the Race, as the driver has set satisfactory times in Practice as well as in Sprint Qualifying at this Competition.
“The car will be placed on the grid in accordance with Article 42.3(e) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.”
As a result, it now means that Hadjar will start 20th behind Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, in 19th, who will serve his five-place grid penalty for causing a collision against Haas Esteban Ocon during the sprint race.
