Lewis Hamilton slapped with post-race penalty after Singapore Grand Prix
5th October 2025Ferrari Lewis Hamilton has lost his seventh-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix after the seven-time world champion was slapped with a time penalty.

Hamilton has been handed a post-race time penalty after the chequered flag fell at the Singapore Grand Prix, won by his former Mercedes teammate George Russell.
The seven-time world champion finished the race in seventh place after he ‘lost’ his brakes in the dying stages of the demanding Singapore race.
However, he will now finish the race down in eighth after a five-second time penalty was given for multiple track limit violations. Despite the brake issues, the stewards did not consider it justifiable for Hamilton to exceed the track limits.
In the report, they said:
“During the hearing, the driver confirmed that he left the track at several occasions. He was trying to manage a brakes issue situation.
“This being said, after further investigation, and in accordance with the list of exemptions foreseen in the Driving Standards Guidelines, the Stewards considered that this was not a justifiable reason and apply the usual penalty for such type of infringement.
“This was not contested by the team representative nor the driver.”
Hamilton pitted for a second time late on in the race to discard his worn hard tyres, which were bolted on after his first pit stop, for a set of the faster soft tyres.
The multiple world champion charged for a top-five finish, having been allowed past by his teammate Charles Leclerc to chase after fifth-placed Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes.
However, when the Ferrari driver attempted an overtake on his replacement at Mercedes, sparks were seen coming from his front-left brakes. From there, Hamilton fell back, allowing Antonelli and Leclerc to pass him on track.
He took the chequered flag 34.2 seconds behind Leclerc, but finished ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso by four tenths.
As 12.8 seconds separated Alonso from Haas’ Oliver Bearman, in ninth, Hamilton would only lose the single position after his penalty was applied.
