The FIA Technical delegate has confirmed, following qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix, that both Williams cars of Albon and Sainz have failed scrutineering in relation to the DRS flap.

In the FIA report, it has been confirmed that both Albon and Sainz’s cars had their uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions checked, and both cars failed after they exceeded the maximum limit of 85mm.

The FIA Technical Delegate, Jo Bauer said:

“The uppermost rear wing element adjustable positions were checked on car numbers 23 [Albon] and 55 [Sainz].

“Both cars exceeded the maximum limit of 85 mm on both sides of the rear wing outer area.

As this is not in compliance with TR Article 3.10.10 g. I am referring this matter to the stewards for their confirmation.”

According to the technical regulations, under Article 3.10.10g, the rules state that all points along the DRS span – when it is in a state of deployment – the two sections of the rear win profiles must have a minimum gap of 9.4mm and a maximum of 85mm.

It is also regulated that this is checked and measured with a spherical gauge.

Both Sainz and Albon have been summoned to the stewards for the technical infringment. Both cars made it to Q2 in qualifying, under the lights in Singapore’s Marina Bay Circuit, qualifying as high as 12th [Albon] and 13th [Sainz].
