After a dominant weekend in Gran Canaria, Rovanpera has secured a maximum-points result as he took the rally win and maximum Sunday and Power Stage points. It will also catapult the Finnish driver into championship contention.

Rovanpera looked to take every stage win until the final stage on Saturday, when his teammate, Elfyn Evans, put a stop to his run of continuous stage wins.

In the end, the Finn still claimed all but three stage wins of the 18-stage weekend. When everyone else found tenths over their nearest competitor, Rovanpera found seconds.

Following an impressive weekend from Sebastien Ogier, who claimed second place across the board, including second-fastest on the Wolf Power Stage, it means Toyota will leave the event with yet another maximum point-scoring weekend.

Toyota will extend its championship lead over Hyundai to 208 points, an advantage of 51 points over the South Korean marque.

Evans will extend his championship lead to 109 points ahead of now as the Welshman locked out the podium in third.

It means Evans will have a 43-point advantage over second-placed Rovanpera, who will have 66 points to his name after this weekend, after overtaking Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville in the drivers’ standings.

Next up on the calendar will be the iconic Vodafone Rally de Portugal, which will take place May 15 – 18, the fifth round of the 14-round season.
