Piastri heads McLaren 1-2 in a commanding F1 Chinese Grand Prix

At the Shanghai International Circuit, Piastri secured his first win of the 2025 campaign with a controlled drive as he led teammate Norris to the chequered flag.
The Australian started the race from pole, having secured a second-place finish in the Sprint Race behind Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. When the lights went out no one threatened Piastri for the race lead.
Whilst the Australian took home his first win of 2025, the one-two position looked almost certain until a ‘long’ brake pedal brought this into question for Norris.
Norris complained of a problem with his brakes and the team advised him to monitor his brake pressure. The problem got gradually worse until the final laps when his engineer advised the Briton the issue had become ‘critical.’
This allowed Mercedes’ George Russell to close in on the second-place McLaren and the two crossed the finish line, second and third, respectively, separated by just over a second.
Piastri needed a good weekend after his disappointing home race last week, at the Australian Grand Prix, in which he went from being a podium contender to ninth when the weather changed.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
