The sun had fallen beneath the crest of the horizon on the penultimate day of the three-day test at the Bahrain International Circuit at the Middle-Eastern country of Bahrain.
Hamilton had previously set the fastest lap of the session; having completed this during the morning session, Sainz has taken over as the fastest driver of the day in the afternoon session.
The rain had continued to fall, as it had in the morning, but the teams and drivers were not forced to resort to wet-weather tyres in the afternoon as the circuit began to dampen.
It meant the teams and drivers could continue through their testing programme without further issues.
Afternoon runners
McLaren – Lando Norris
Ferrari – Charles Leclerc
Red Bull – Liam Lawson
Mercedes – Andrea Kimi Antonelli
Aston Martin – Lance Stroll
Alpine – Jack Doohan
Haas – Oliver Bearman

Halfway through the afternoon session, Sainz had taken over as the pacesetter in day two of pre-season testing. The Spanaird set a lap time of 1:29.348, one of five drivers to do so in this afternoon session, 0.031 seconds faster than the man who had replaced him at Ferrari: Hamilton.
Leclerc was 0.083 seconds off the pace with his fastest lap time and this left Kimi Antonelli, Doohan and Stroll to complete the top five of the afternoon runners in third, fifth, sixth and eighth respectively.
Norris, Lawson, Bortoleto, Hadjar and Bearman completed the afternoon runners who occupied the order of 12th, 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th.

My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
