Formula 1 confirmed on Wednesday, January 8, that the Belgian Grand Prix will continue with the sport on a ‘multi-year’ deal for the next six years, two of which they will not feature on the calendar.
The extension will run until 2031 with races to be completed under this new agreement in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031. This follows ‘significant’ investment at the circuit in recent years, including two new grandstands.
In recent years, the venue and event have been prominent features on the F1 chopping block, with the Belgian GP under heavy speculation that it would not feature on the calendar as the bosses tried to compromise historical value and the sporting spectacle.
On the announcement, Formula 1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali said:
“The Belgian Grand Prix was one of the races that made up our maiden Championship in 1950, so as we kick off our 75th anniversary year it is fitting that we can share the news of this important extension.

“Spa-Francorchamps is rightly lauded by drivers and fans alike as one of the finest racetracks in the world and it has played host to some incredible moments over its many seasons in Formula 1.
“In recent years it has undergone significant work to improve the facility and overall fan experience, and I would like to pay tribute to the promoter and the Government of Wallonia for their dedication and passionate support for Formula 1 in Belgium.”
The Belgian Grand Prix, which stands as the longest circuit on the calendar at a staggering 7.004km, has been described as a track ‘celebrated’ by the F1 teams and drivers thanks to its iconic corners, Eau Rogue and Radillion.
Some of the sport’s most iconic drivers have secured wins at the circuit with the likes of Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda and Sebastian Vettel. Of the current grid, Ferrari’s 2025 line-up of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have also won at the track.
As Spa-Francorchamps becomes a rotational race event, missing out on races in 2028 and 2030, it will open the door for other venues looking to enter the sport.
In light of the announcement, the event will return this year on July 25-27 for the 2025 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.
