Weather Report: The latest forecast at the Mexico Grand Prix

Formula 1 heads into stop two of the All-American triple header with the Mexican Grand Prix but what is the weather expected to be like this weekend?

Formula 1 returns to Mexico for the 20th round of the sport’s 24-race calendar, with it the motorsport returns to its traditional format of containing three practice sessions ahead of qualifying and the race.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continues to lead the world championship in the drivers standings, having extending his lead marginally over McLaren’s Lando Norris. At the same time, McLaren continue to lead the world constructors championship as the Woking-based team maintained their lead at the United States Grand Prix, last weekend.

Over the course of the three-day event, the weather looks like it’s progressively going to get worse as the race weekend unfolds.

What is the weather forecast?

Friday – Free Practice 1 & Free Practice 2

Start time (UK time) – 7:30pm & 11pm

Friday kicks off the action in Mexico City with a return to the traditional format. As such, it’s expected to be a sunny and warm start to the race weekend with both practice sessions forecasted to be sunny.

Temperatures are set to start around 17° for FP1 but is set to increase up to 22° for FP2. There is a very low risk of rain with the prediction expecting less than 5% for precipitation.

Saturday – Free Practice 3 & Qualifying

Start time (UK time) – 6:30pm & 10pm

Saturday is expected to be slightly different to the opening day as the sport head into it’s competitive sessions. FP3 Mexico City is forecasted to see sunny intervals in the final hour of practice and qualifying is expected to be cloudy.

Temperatures are set to start around 14° ahead of the final practice session, increasing up to 20° for qualifying. There is less than 5% chance of rain but this increases up to 10% for qualifying.

Sunday – Race

Start time – 8pm

Unlike the previous two days, the Sun may have to fight its way through the clouds to appear in the sky on race day. With a start time of 2pm (local time) the weather is predicted to be cloudy with drizzle hitting the area around 3pm, increasing to light rain by 6pm.

The temperatures will stand at their lowest across the weekend with it reaching the highest of 17° mid-race, increasing from 14° two hours before the race start. Chances of rain also increase to there highest across the weekend with 20% of rain from 12pm (local time) up to 40% mid-race, at 3pm.
