The last time Verstappen secured a win – of any kind – was back in June at the last sprint event, in Austria, where he pipped both McLarens to victory at the Red Bull Ring.

However, Red Bull’s triple world champion took the chequered flag first in the US Grand Prix sprint race to win his first race in four months.

Verstappen started the race from sprint pole and got a stellar start off the line to defend against Mercedes’ George Russell into turn one. From there, the defending world champion controlled his way to victory and maintains a healthy record of winning every sprint race this season.

Norris looked to finish the race second, behind his championship rival, but a lock-up on the final lap ruined this possibility and cost him a place in between the two Ferraris with Sainz pouncing on the opportunity.

As such, Sainz finished second ahead of Norris whilst Charles Leclerc completed a McLaren-filled Ferrari sandwich in fourth.

The Mercedes duo of Russell and Lewis Hamilton completed the sprint down in fifth and sixth whilst the Haas pairing of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg secured the final points, in seventh and eighth.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez could not squeeze into the points and finished the race down in ninth ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri who squeezed into 10th after a five-second penalty, for forcing Alpine’s Pierre Gasly off the track.

VCARB’s Yuki Tsunoda led the bottom 10 in 11th ahead of Williams’ Franco Colapinto and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll who occupied 12th and 13th. This left the Alpine duo of Gasly and Esteban Ocon to complete the top 15 respectively.

VCARB’s Liam Lawson completed his first race for the rebranded team in 16th. Williams’ Alexander Albon and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso completed the session in 17th and 18th, ahead of the Kick Sauber duo of Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas in 19th and 20th.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
