Leclerc brought the red flag out after he crashed out on the exit of turn four. The Monegasque driver took too much kerb on the exit which spat the #16 Ferrari across the track and into the barrier, he was forced to retire out on track.
Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu also had a moment at turn four as he spun the car around on the exit. Fortunately, he was able to keep the car out of the barrier and narrowly avoid the Red Bull of Sergio Perez.
How the second practice finished
Norris topped the timing boards as the fastest driver out on the Hungaroring as the Briton put in a storming 1m 17.788s. Again, Verstappen found himself in second, for the second consecutive session, ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz who occupied third.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez found more lap time in FP2, than he did in Free Practice 1, as the Mexican completed the session in fourth. Mercedes’ George Russell completed the top five, 0.506s behind Norris’ pace.
Haas’ outgoing Kevin Magnussen, who is set to depart the team at the end of the year, finished second practice in sixth and only two-hundredths of a second quicker than seventh-placed Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
Daniel Ricciardo was the fastest RB driver as he completed the session in eighth ahead of Williams Alexander Albon and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who were ninth and 10th respectively.
Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas was the fastest driver inside the bottom 10 as he finished 11th ahead of Williams’ Logan Sargeant and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, in 12th and 13th.
Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top 15, in 14th and 15th respectively.
Ocon’s teammate, Pierre Gasly completed the Alpine line-up in 16th after the chequered flag fell on FP2. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll found himself in 17th, 1.3s off the pace.
After his crash, Leclerc did not finish FP2 with the slowest time on the board as the Monegasque finished the session down in 18th with RB’s Yuki Tsuonda (19th) and Guanyu (20th) completing the 20-car field.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
