Norris set the pace in FP1 of the British Grand Prix, at Silverstone Circuit, as the session remained dry, unlike the mixed conditions the sports F2 and F3 categories had to contend with.

It wasn’t without interruption as RB’s Yuki Tsunoda brought out the only red flag of the session as the Japanese driver lost control mid-corner at Luffield.

Piastri, at the end of the session, had also problems as he forced the pit lane to be closed. He pulled his McLaren off to the side of the Pit Entry, and to a stop, with suspected hydraulic issues.

How did FP1 end…

Norris completed the session as the fastest driver with a lap time of 1m 27.420s ahead of Stroll and Piastri who were a maximum of two-tenths behind the McLaren’s time.

Max Verstappen and George Russell completed the top five in fourth and fifth respectively, three-tenths off the pace.

Fernando Alonso led the bottom half of the top 10, in sixth, he was followed closely by Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz in order of seventh to ninth. Esteban Ocon was the leading Alpine who rounded out the top 10.

Nico Hulkenberg was the leading driver inside the bottom 10, with the 11th-fastest lap time on the board. Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo finished the session 12th and 13th.

One of four rookies to take part in the FP1 session, Oliver Bearman (who was announced as a Haas driver for 2025) was the leading rookie in the session in 14th. The Briton was in Haas’ VF-24 in place of Magnussen.

Guanyu Zhou rounded out the top 15 positions, 1.170s off Norris’ pace. Followed by Williams’ Alexander Albon who finished in 16th, the last of the regular F1 drivers to complete the session, just over five-hundredths off Zhou’s time.

Alpine’s Jack Doohan was the next rookie in line and he finished 17th ahead of his fellow rookies, Franco Colaptino (Williams Racing) and Isack Hadjar (Red Bull Racing) who finished 18th and 19th respectively.

Tsunoda completed the running order down in 20th having only completed a brief stint before beaching his VCARB1 into the gravel trap, at Luffield (T7).
