Alpine to change technical structure in bid for better results

Alpine has announced ‘a series of organisational changes’ as the team aim for better results in the Formula One world championship.

On Monday, March 4, 2024, Alpine announced they are set to change the structure of their senior management after a series of ‘disappointing results.’

The team aimed for a return to the front of the grid with a ‘100-race’ plan which was expected to see them return for title contention in 2024.

After a P17 and P18 finish for Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly respectively at the 2024 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, the team have opted to change their structure.

On the announcement, Alpine Team Principal, Bruno Famin said:

“We have decided to make these organisational changes as we can clearly see that we are not where we want nor need to be in terms of performance level and it is time to take another step in terms of organisation and people.”

The new structure will remove the previous structure of a singular Technical Director and replace it with a ‘three-pillared’ approach.

This means Alpine will have three Technical Directors under their F1 brand who operate in specialised roles, such as; Performance, Aerodynamics and engineering.

In the announcement, the team announced Joe Burnell will take up the mantle as the Engineering Technical Director, David Wheater stands in as Aerodynamics Technical Director and Ciaron Pilbeam will be the Technical Director of Performance.

“The new three-pillared structure with three Technical Directors, each specialising in different areas, will bring better work and collaboration across our technical areas and contribute to delivering performance from the factories to the race track,” continued Famin. “I trust fully in the abilities of Joe, David and Ciaron to work closely together in bringing the team the performance and improvements that it needs.”

Previous Technical Director Matt Harman and Dirk de Beer, Head of Aerodynamics, have chosen to leave the team ‘to seek new challenges,’ reported by Alpine’s press release. The team has thanked Harman and Beer for their efforts.

That’s all for the article; Alpine to change technical structure in bid for better results!
