Bottas given reprimand for Bahrain pit lane infringement
29th February 2024Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas has been given a ‘reprimand with no penalty points’ after crossing the pit exit line while the red light was on.
In the opening minute of Free Practice 2, Bottas was immediately put under investigation for a pit lane infringement.
During the session, it was found the Finn had crossed the pit exit line while the traffic light was still red as he pulled over to the practice start area.
After the session, Bottas – with a team representative – was summoned to the steward’s office to discuss the incident.
All parties reviewed the video evidence and concluded that Bottas had ‘crossed the pit exit light while the red light was on.’
Following the hearing, the stewards said:
“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 77 (Valtteri Bottas), team representative and reviewed video evidence and determined that Car 77 crossed the Pit Exit Line while the red light was on.
“The driver stopped shortly after crossing the line and admitted his error at the hearing. We accordingly imposed a reprimand with no penalty points.”
Without any additional penalty points being applied to Bottas’ super licence it means the Finn remains on two points, obtained during the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix for causing a collision with Lance Stroll.
The incident followed a mixed-bag kind of day for the newly-renamed team.
The team’s drivers finished 10th (Bottas) and 15th (Guanyu Zhou), at the end of first practice. A 17th and 19th place finish followed for Bottas and Zhou, respectively, in FP2.
