Lindblad starts off F3 career with Bahrain GP sprint win
1st March 2024Prema Racing’s Arvid Lindblad started off his Formula 3 career with a visit to the top step as the British driver secured victory in the sprint race.
It was a fairly good start by the field of 31 drivers as they raced off into the opening corner of their 2024 campaign.
ART’s Nikola Tsolov entered turn one as the race leader, having overtaken his teammate Laurens Van Hoepen on the run to T1. Drama quickly ensued at the opening corner as Prema’s Dino Beganovic was spun around at T1 by Tridents Santiago Ramos.
The contact resulted in a puncture for Beganovic who was forced to quickly limp back to the pits for a tyre change. Begnovic was given a 10-second time penalty for the contact.
After a handful of fairly well-behaved laps, Hitech’s Luke Browning was given a 10-second time penalty, on lap eight. The Briton was deemed to have left the track and gained an advantage during his overtake with ART’s Christian Mansell at turn four.
ART soon found themselves in an inter-team battle between the top two drivers, Tsolov and Van Hoepen who occupied first and second respectively.
However, on lap 13, Van Hoepen dropped down the order as outbroke himself at turn 11 and left him wide on the corner exit. This allowed Lindblad to sneak up the inside to take second place.
Lindblad later took the race lead at the start of lap 16, at the first corner. Aided with DRS, the eventual race winner darted down the inside, and with full control of the corner, secured the position with ease.
In the following laps ART found themselves with an internal battle as Van Hopen and Tsolov fought over the podium scraps. While this fight ensued behind, Lindblad established a comfortable 2-second gap.
By the chequered flag, this gap exceeded five seconds between Lindblad and Van Hoepen, who finished second, as Tsolov fell to fourth allowing Trident’s Leonardo Fornaroli to round out the podium in third.
