Carlos Sainz victim of robbery outside hotel after Italian GP podium
4th September 2023Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has been a victim of robbery after the Spaniard secured his first podium finish of the season at the Italian Grand Prix.
After the Spaniard secured third place at the Italian Grand Prix in front of the beloved Italian Tifosi, behind both Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, the Spaniard was a target of an attempted robbery on Sunday night in Milan.
It has been reported that the Ferrari driver had his very expensive Richard Mille watch stolen from him, just outside his hotel. Sainz and members of his team chased down the would-be thieves to retrieve the stolen item.
Sainz has posted on social media stating he is okay and the incident will ‘remain as an unpleasant anecdote.’
On X – formerly Twitter – Sainz posted:
“As many of you already know, yesterday we experienced an unfortunate incident in Milano.
“The most important thing is that we are all OK and this will only remain as an unpleasant anecdote.
“Many thanks to all the people who helped us yesterday, to the Milan police for their quick intervention and thanks for all your messages.”
A video has emerged and quickly circulated social media which shows the police speaking with Sainz and members of his team beside a police car.
According to Autosport, three people were involved in the incident and are now in custody, aged between 18 and 20.
The incident will certainly leave a sour taste in the mouth for those involved as Ferrari had a good outing in Monza.
Sainz started on pole position at the Italian Grand Prix, ahead of the defending F1 champion Verstappen and fell back to third behind the two Red Bulls to claim his first podium finish of the season.
