‘Respect goes both ways’ says Alfa Romeo F1 after Brundle/Delevingne clash
11th July 2023Alfa Romeo F1 team has stated ‘respect goes both ways’ after their guest, Cara Delevingne, had an awkward run-in with Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle.
Alfa Romeo has weighed in on the drama which unfolded between Delevingne and Brundle during the latter’s iconic grid walk, ahead of the 2023 British Grand Prix.
Delevingne, who has been criticised on social media after she refused an interview with Brundle, was found inside the paddock and around the grid ahead of the race as a guest of Alfa Romeo.
On Monday, the team posted a video where Delevingne was shown around the garage, sat inside one of the cars, obtained a hot lap and spoke to the drivers in the team’s hospitality area.
In the post, the team said:
“Learning the ropes. Thanks for spending the day with us, @Caradelevingne! It was a pleasure to show you the world of #F1 and teach you more about this incredible sport.”
After the post went live, online users continued to air their frustration about Delevingne’s refusal to Brundle.
One user wrote, ‘it’s a shame that she was so rude to Martin Brundle… who even is she?’ Alfa Romeo soon responded in defence to Delevingne, they said:
“Respect goes both ways: nobody should be placed in an uncomfortable situation or forced to do things against their will.”
The incident occurred during Brundle’s iconic grid walk where the former racer, now co-commentator, walks the grid speaking to a number of individuals such as team officials, drivers and guests.
During the pre-event segment, Brundle was initially told no by a staff member but the 64-year-old still attempted a conversation with the 30-year-old model. Delevingne declined the interview, after Brundle introduced himself, then went on to say she couldn’t ‘hear anything.’
Following the incident, it was met with a mixed reception from fans and users on social media.
Some users believed she should have spoken to Brundle due to her luxurious position of being invited as a guest while some stated she had a right to refuse the interview.
