F1 to broadcast Monaco GP after historic move

Formula 1 is expected to take control of the broadcast production of the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, next weekend, after years of coverage from Monaco’s own Tele Monte Carlo.

Following on from the cancelled Imola Grand Prix this weekend, which was cancelled due to extreme bad weather impacting several regions, the sport and teams will head to the Principality of Monaco for the next race weekend.

However, next weekend will include a landmark change in the sports history as F1 is set to control the broadcast after a three-year deal was struck between the sport and the Automobile Club of Monaco.

It is expected that F1 will control the broadcast themselves – including the world feed, instead of being handed to the Principality’s Tele Monte Carlo production team. The change will have no affect on the channels who broadcast the action such as Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.

The decision will be a good sign with the sport’s fanbase after the Monte Carlo broadcaster suffered numerous blunders in recent years, missing out key action or changing to a different driver – or part of the track – as an overtake was about to be made.

The most infamous moment in recent seasons would be back in 2021 when Sebastian Vettel, in Aston Martin, contested in a wheel-to-wheel battle with Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly.

Just as the action was about to be concluded, the world feed showcased a replay of Aston Martin’s Lance Stoll making a mistake into a corner.

Across the season, F1 usually produces the broadcasting themselves with their on-site team but Monaco, F1’s most prestigious event of the season, has enjoyed the ability to broadcast the race weekend locally.

That’s all for the article: F1 to broadcast Monaco GP after historic move!
