F1 to donate €1m following devastating floods impacting Emilia Romagna

Formula 1 is going to donate €1m to help those affected by the floods in the Emilia Romagna region.

Earlier this week, Formula 1 decided not to proceed with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix after the devastating floods, and heavy downpours plagued the region. Ahead of the event, the local government’s Department of Civil Protection put the area under a red weather alert.

The event was cancelled off because the sport believed it to be the ‘right and responsible’ thing to do, as they couldn’t safely hold the Grand Prix for fans, the personnel, and the teams.

Throughout the week, because of the heavy rain, 21 rivers have burst their banks and submerged some towns.

Following the floods, F1 CEO and President, Stefano Domenicali has sympathised with those affected by the floods. He said:

“I was born and grew up in the marvellous lands of Emilia Romagna, a place that is living through some of the saddest moments in its history.

“The situation facing the communities in the region is terrible, but I know that the resilience and passion of the people in the region, like so many across Italy, will prevail through this crisis.

“We must do everything we can to support them at this difficult time and that is why we are donating to help support the relief efforts on the ground.

“My thoughts, on behalf of the entire Formula 1 community, are with everyone affected and we want to thank the emergency services for their incredible work.”

As a result of the ongoing crisis in northern Italy, F1 will donate €1m to the Emilia-Romagna’s Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection to support the communities affected by the flooding.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
