Ken Block, 55, dies in Snowmobile accident
3rd January 2023Former WRC and World RX driver and co-founder of Hoonigan, Ken Block, has died in a snowmobile accident, aged 55.
Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office and Hoonigans official social media page confirmed the passing of Ken Block.
According to Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Block was reportedly riding a snowmobile at 2pm, on a steep slope in Utah, when the vehicle ‘upended, landing on top of him.’
In the report they said:
“On January 2, 2023 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a snowmobile accident in the Mill Hollow area.
“Search and Rescue, along with law enforcement from Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Utah State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service responded.
“The driver, Kenneth Block, 55-year-old male out of Park City, Utah, was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope when the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
“Mr. Block was riding with a group but was alone when the accident occurred.
“The State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
“We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected.
“We thank all of our first responders for their continued service.”
Hoonigan’s social media page, on Instagram, also confirmed the death of the former Rally driver.

They said:
“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today.
“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband.
“He will be incredibly missed
“Please respect the family’s privacy at this time while they grieve.”
Block grew to fame in the Rally scene after spending time in the Rally America Series in 2005, a series he continued to compete in more recently – just missing out the 2022 title to Brandon Semenuk.
But, it wasn’t long before he jumped up into the World Rally Championship, in 2010, where he signed a deal with Ford to race for what was the Monster World Rally Team.
However, his time in the WRC was short before he moved into the FIA World Rallycross Championship, in 2016. This came after he spent some time in the Global Rallycross Championship with Ford which was rebranded as Hoonigan Racing Division in 2012.
In more recent times, Block has remained in the starlight with his viral Gymkhana series. The series sees Block driving custom-built cars doing high-speed stunts in a range of different locations and has hit well over 500 million views since its first video, back in 2008.
As the world transitions towards electric vehicles, Block and his team recently published the first Elecrikhana video – in October 2022 – where the former rally driver put the ‘Hoonitron’ through its paces around the Las Vegas Strip.
