Max Verstappen Awarded Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau
1st September 2022Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen has been appointed ‘Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau,’ ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Ahead of the Dutchman’s home race, at the seaside circuit in Zandvoort, the defending world champion has been appointed as an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
The defending Formula 1 World Champion was appointed the prestigious award by the Netherland’s Minister for Sport Conny Helder, with his family and close friends in attendance.
The defending world champion, sporting his newest award on Twitter, said:
“Being appointed an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau is an incredibly proud moment for me and came very unexpected for me so early in my career.
“I want to thank my family and loved ones, but also Red Bull who have been like a second family to me. We achieved this together.”
This award comes after the Dutchman has showcased incredible talent in his field, especially for being the first-ever Dutch F1 world champion.
After a single season in Formula 3, Verstappen was quickly catapulted into F1 with Toro Rosso in 2015. One season later, the Dutchman moved up to Red Bull and secured his first ever career win, on his debut, in 2016.
The rank of Officer in the order of Orange-Nassau is comparable to the Order of the British Empire, OBE, in the United Kingdom.
The prestigious rank is given to those who have demonstrated their ‘ongoing commitment’ to Dutch society.
