F1 Canadian GP: Charles Leclerc takes 10-place grid drop
18th June 2022Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has been handed a 10-place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix after he took a third ‘control electronics’ element.
After issues on reliability with Ferrari’s F1-75, when the Monegasque suffered DNF’s in both Barcelona and Baku, the Scuderia have taken another CE element.
This additional unit breaches Article 28.2 of the F1 sporting regulations, which comes with a 10-place grid penalty.
It means if Leclerc secures Pole Position today, he will be demoted to P11 tomorrow after he served the grid penalty.
This will leave, depending on his qualifying position, Ferrari Spaniard Carlos Sainz to fight both Red Bull’s at the front of the pack.
However, Leclerc wasn’t the only driver to take an engine penalty this weekend. Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda will start the race, on Sunday, at the back of the grid after the Japanese driver took a new power unit.
That’s it for the article: F1 Canadian GP: Charles Leclerc takes 10-place grid drop!
