F1 Canada GP: Charles Leclerc to start at back of grid

18th June 2022 0 By Kamron Kent

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is now set to start the race at the back of the grid after he took additional power unit components.

The Scuderia’s Monegasque driver was slapped with a 10-place grid penalty after he took an additional control electronics component for his power unit, which was outside of his allowance.

However, Leclerc will now start the Canadian Grand Prix at the back of the pack.

This comes after the Monegasque took an additional; Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Turbocharger (TC), Motor Generator Unit – Heat (MGU-H), Motor Generator Unit – Kinetic (MGU-K). Leclerc has also taken a brand new exhaust but this remains within the sporting regulations of the 2022 season.

Of these components, Leclerc had taken:

  • His fourth ICE
  • His fourth turbocharger
  • His fourth MGU-H
  • His fourth MUG-K

This means he will now join Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda who also took a new; ICE, Turbocharger, MGU-H and another MGU-K, at the beginning of the weekend.

That’s it for the article: F1 Canada GP: Charles Leclerc to start at back of grid! Where do you think the Ferrari driver will finish the race on Sunday? Let us know in the comments!

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
