F2 returns to France in 2022
18th May 2022Formula 2 will return to Le Castellet’s Circuit Paul Ricard, in France, to bring the junior category up to a 14-race calendar.
F2 has announced its set to return to Paul Ricard as a support series for Formula 1’s French Grand Prix, alongside the female-only W Series who are also set to support the F1 weekend.
Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 CEO, said:
“Since it was announced that we would drop one event, we have been working on finding a venue to replace it, keeping in mind the costs. Le Castellet came out as the best option, and we are really pleased to return to the Circuit Paul Ricard.
“With this added round, we go back to fourteen events as announced before the start of the season. This means that the 2022 season calendar is the most sizeable one we have had since the start of the FIA F2 back in 2017.
“It will be a very busy month of July for the teams and the drivers, but a very exciting one for the fans and everyone involved in F2.”
The last time F2 raced at Paul Ricard, in 2019, the season’s champion Nyck De Vries and the late Anthoine Hubert secured victories at Le Castellet.
As a result of this change, the 2022 calendar now looks like this:
- Bahrain (18-20 March)
- Saudi Arabia (25-27 March)
- Italy (22-24 April)
- Spain (20-22 May)
- Monaco (26-29 May)
- Azerbaijan (10-12 June)
- Great Britain (01-03 July)
- Austria (08-10 July)
- France (22-24 July)
- Hungary (29-31 July)
- Belgium (26-28 August)
- Netherlands (02-04 September)
- Italy (09-11 September)
- Abu Dhabi (18-20 November)
