From Heartbreak To Redemption: Gasly’s Monaco Podium Is Reinstated!

What Happened in Monaco?
During last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly finished third on the road, thinking he had secured a podium. However, post-race, he was demoted to seventh after two five-second time penalties for speeding in the pit lane were applied.
Alpine’s Appeal and FIA’s Decision
Shortly after the race, Alpine confirmed it had requested a Right of Review from the FIA, stating that it would challenge the penalties that were issued.
On Thursday afternoon, June 11th, Alpine’s petition for a Right of Review was deemed admissible, and by Friday morning, Gasly’s podium was reinstated.
This decision was made after new evidence showed an error in the pit lane speed calculations, meaning Gasly had not exceeded the limit.
This morning, the Alpine Team released a team statement, which reads: “We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible following the final classification of last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.”
“As a result, the Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Car #10, which reinstates the team’s third place finish.”
“We would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation throughout the Right of Review process and for reaching this decision.”
Alpine go on to add: “The team’s focus is now very much on this weekend’s Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and striving for the best possible result with both of its cars.”
The Impact from this Reinstated Podium Position
With Gasly’s reinstated podium, Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar is demoted to fourth, and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, and Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad also drop one position each.
