Lawson started the race from P12 after a tricky build-up to the Grand Prix but recovered across the 68 laps in Montreal, holding off late pressure from Pierre Gasly after switching to the soft tyre for the final stint.
The result gives Racing Bulls more valuable points, but the team lost ground on Alpine with Arvid Lindblad failing to start the race after an issue on the grid. Franco Colapinto secured a career-best F1 finish in P6 while Gasly was just behind Lawson in P8, meaning it’s advantage Alpine in the battle for fifth in the Constructors’ Championship
Reflecting on his weekend, Lawson said: “After a difficult start to the weekend, finishing in P7 is definitely a good result for us, so it’s nice to bring home points for the team.
“Overall, it wasn’t an easy race. We made up some ground from where we started, but we also struggled with the balance of the car and lacked some speed throughout the race.”

Lawson believes his biggest challenge throughout the race was tyre temperatures, and also acknowledged the pace advantage Alpine had.
“The biggest challenge was to maintain the correct temperature on the tyres as we were only able to do it during the flat-out laps.
“The Alpines were faster than us today and Pierre didn’t give me an easy time at the end of the race when I was on the Soft tyres, so I’m happy to have defended my position.”
Attention now turns to Monaco, where F1 returns after Canada to begin the European phase of the season.
“I’m excited to get back to racing in Monaco in a couple of weeks as we look ahead to the European stretch of the season,” Lawson concluded.
