Starting from fifth on the grid, Hamilton produced one of the best drives of the race in Montreal, fighting back at Max Verstappen, chasing him down and then passing the Red Bull driver late in the race to secure second place.
The result is Hamilton’s first second-place finish with the Scuderia and the team’s best result of the season so far, which strengthens their hold on P2 in the Constructors’ Championship.
The seven-time world champion was full of praise for both the team and the progress being made on his side of the garage.
He said: “It feels great to be able to put the Ferrari on the podium, and to get my first second place with the team as well in the main race, and this is my second podium as well.
“I’m just elated and so proud of the team for working so hard. I finally have the engineering team that I’ve been working towards.”
Hamilton changed his preparation methods ahead of the trip to Montreal – choosing to focus on analysing previous data over simulator work, which is a change that appeared to pay off immediately.

Over the weekend, he consistently outperformed Charles Leclerc and now leaves Canada fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, just three points behind his teammate.
The Briton believes both he and Ferrari are moving in the right direction. He continued:
“I think our car is great, the guys did a fantastic job over the winter to get the car where it is, and I think I understand it a lot better and much more comfortable with it.
“Whilst we’re not exactly where we want to be, to get a result like this capitalises [on]… we’ve got great reliability. This is awesome, and a big thanks to the team.”
Hamilton also spoke about the personal confidence he has rebuilt during the weekend, describing Canada as one of his best experiences since arriving at Ferrari. He added:
“Honestly it’s the best feeling. I feel very light right now.
“I feel great in my body – physically I’m very, very strong, and clearly mentally in a good place and I arrived this weekend with mega energy, and I want to take this forwards.”
