The WRC will return to mainland Europe after racing around the streets of Gran Canaria for the iconic Rally de Portugal.
With it, the rally will return to gravel conditions for the first time since Safari Rally Kenya, back in March. It also makes a change of surface conditions after two consecutive rallies on asphalt conditions, in Croatia and the Canary Islands.
Having secured a second-place finish overall and maximum points on Sunday, Toyota’s Elfyn Evans took over as the championship leader with his teammate, Takamoto Katsuta, dropping to second place in the standings after a fourth-place finish in Canarias.
However, whilst conditions are set to be tricky, the weather will also add to the challenge as the conditions are set to get wetter as the event wears on, with a dry start but a possible wet finish.
So, according to the weather watchers at AccuWeather, what are the conditions expected to be like this weekend in Portugal?
Thursday
The opening day of the weekend is expected to be a day full of sunny periods, with a sprinkling of clouds. Temperatures will be as high as 18°, with lows of 12°.
There is a 25% chance of rain heading into the first day of action.
Friday
Friday will start in a similar fashion to Thursday, but with cloudy conditions, and there are one or two brief showers expected in the afternoon.
The chance of rain is set to increase to 66% for the first full day of running. Temperatures will increase to highs of 20° and lows of 13°.
Saturday
There is a very strong chance of rain on Saturday, with the weather forecast claiming 97%, with morning showers expected alongside cloudy and breezy conditions, which will later subside.
Despite the forecast of rain, the temperatures are expected to decrease into the weekend, dropping to 16° and 13°.
Sunday
The weather will continue to be wet on the final day of Rally Portugal, with rain expected alongside clouds and breezy conditions. Regardless, it still holds a strong chance of precipitation, standing at 61%.
Although it is expected to be mostly cloudy on the day, the temperatures will remain as they are forecast for the entire event, highs of 17° and lows of 13°.
