WRC set for UK return in 2027 with Scotland Rally
17th March 2026The World Rally Championship is set for a return to the United Kingdom, with Rally Scotland, in 2027 as part of a three-year deal.

The WRC, in partnership with Motorsport UK, has announced a return to the UK in 2027 with a gravel-based event in Scotland.
This new agreement is set to start in 2027 as part of a three-year deal and will see an end to an eight-year gap when the last UK-based WRC event took place, Wales Rally GB, back in 2019.
FIA’s Deputy President for Sport, Malcolm Wilson, has praised the decision. He said:
“This is a huge announcement for the FIA World Rally Championship, it really demonstrates the positive direction we are now taking.
“The United Kingdom has incredible heritage and passion for our sport, and the return of a flagship world championship event in Scotland is the start of the next chapter in this long history.
“As we enter a new era for the WRC in 2027 with new regulations, more accessible cars and more crews competing at the sharp end, it’s fantastic to see the appetite is there from organisers, governments and of course the fans to put together new WRC events.
“Alongside Motorsport UK, the WRC Promoter and the local organisers we are very much looking forward to making these plans a reality.”
The WRC confirmed the rally has been secured through a partnership with Motorsport UK, WRC Promoter and the Scottish Government, as well as support from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils.
The Scottish rally will be set in the north-east region of the country, with the service park set to be at the state-of-the-art P&J Live complex in Aberdeen.
With forest roads and ‘dramatic landscapes’, the new rally is set to be contested on stages within the regions of Aberdeenshire and Moray.
However, the rally remains subject to ‘candidate rally’ and World Motor Sport Council approval.
