All of the F1 Driver Super License penalty points
4th March 2026Formula 1 drivers have super licences, allowing them to race in the sport, and if they make a mistake they will be penalised, so who has penalty points on their licence?

When an F1 driver makes a mistake, not only will they be given fines, grid drops or time penalties during a race, they may also be given penalty points on their super licence.
A driver can accumulate a maximum of 12 penalty points on their licence before a race ban is envoked. This feat has only been enforced once by Kevin Magnussen, then-Haas driver, who had to sit out the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2024 after hitting the limit.
After 12 months from when the points were given, they will be removed from their licence. For example, if a Driver gets a single penalty point on April 1, 2025, it will not be removed until the following year.
