On Wednesday, Toyota confirmed it is set to revert its name to Gazoo Racing, going back to its origins, back in 2007, following its change to the previous branding back in 2015.
The team claims it is a decision that will strengthen the ‘motorsports-bred making of ever-better cars and fostering of talent.’
It claims, together with the stakeholders, Toyota Gazoo Racing, under Gazoo Racing, will continue to make better motorsport-bred cars and will foster talents of drivers, engineers and mechanics.
Gazoo Racing originates heavily with the team, going back to the teams roots, where they competed under Team Gazoo at the 2007 Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race.
Akio Toyoda’s (then executive vice president) team at the time were not permitted to use ‘Toyota’ in its name and entered under Team Gazoo. After they finished the race, it was a moment faced with humiliation.
In 2015, Toyota Gazoo Racing was born, with in-house motorsport activities being placed under that banner, including ‘Toyota Racing,’ ‘Lexus Racing,’ and ‘Gazoo Racing,’ which adopted the logo ‘Toyota Gazoo Racing.’
In 2026, the Toyota will still compete under the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand, but in 12 months, it will also revert to Gazoo Racing.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
