Haas’ Oliver Bearman has started to inch away from a potential race ban ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, having been so close to the maximum points allowance.

Bearman has danced ever so close to the line on his super licence in recent months, and has been sitting on the cusp of a race ban if he were to exceed the maximum 12 points allowance.

His most recent set of points came at the Italian Grand Prix, back in September, when he tangled with Williams’ Carlos Sainz, and the Briton earned himself two penalty points, bringing his total to 10 points.

However, two of his penalty points have now been removed after sitting on his licence for the last 12 months.

How Oliver Bearman is nearing race ban in rookie F1 season

At last year’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Bearman stepped into the Haas for the second time after then-driver Kevin Magnussen missed the weekend due to illness.

It followed his first outing for the team back at the 2024 Azerbaijan GP, when Magnussen became the first driver to activate the race ban for exceeding the 12 penalty points.

His first set of penalty points was slapped on his licence for causing a collision with then-Williams driver Franco Colapinto. The Stewards deemed the Briton was ‘wholly at fault’ for the incident and gave him a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points.

That set of points expired on November 3, 2025, which now means Bearman’s penalty points drop from 10 to eight over 12 months. It will now give the Haas driver some breathing space against a potential race ban.

Despite the removal of his penalty points, Bearman still stands as the F1 driver with the most penalty points on his licence (8pts), but he is closely followed by Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who has seven penalty points against him.
