Lawson fastest in first half of morning F1 2025 testing – Day 1
26th February 2025Red Bull’s newcomer, Liam Lawson has topped the timing boards, pipping both Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, on the first morning of Formula 1 testing.

Wednesday marked the first day of the F1 pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, in Bahrain, giving teams and drivers their first helping of eight hours to test their machinery.
As usual, the sessions were separated into both morning and afternoon sessions with all teams using one car to complete the test.
It has been a fairly well-behaved start to the test as the teams and drivers have been out with minimal issues. Only the occasional lock-up into corners or running wide on corner exits.
Here are the morning runners:
- McLaren – Oscar Piastri
- Ferrari – Lewis Hamilton
- Red Bull – Liam Lawson
- Mercedes – Andrea Kimi Antonelli
- Aston Martin – Fernando Alonso
- Alpine – Jack Doohan
- Haas – Oliver Bearman
- Racing Bulls – Yuki Tsunoda
- Williams – Alexander Albon
- Sauber – Nico Hulkenberg
After two hours, Lawson was the fastest driver out on the track with Alonso and Hamilton completing the top three. Racing Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and Williams’ Alex Albon were fourth and fifth respectively.
Alpine’s rookie, Jack Doohan was sixth ahead of Kick Sauber’s new arrival Nico Hulkenberg and Mercedes’ sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli in seventh and eighth.
2025’s defending world constructors champions found themselves down in eight with Oscar Piastri as Ferrari/Haas super sub of 2024, Oliver Bearman completed the top 10.
