After meeting with the team at their Maranello base, meeting senior figures and getting his photo taken in front of Enzo Ferrari’s famous house, Hamilton finally got behind the wheel of a Ferrari F1 car on Wednesday morning.
Having missed out on the post-season Abu Dhabi test, thanks to Hamilton’s commitment to Mercedes, this was the first time Hamilton could get behind the wheel of one of Ferrari’s cars.
The seven-time world champion drove the 2023 SF-23 car at the team’s private Fiorano test track. Under current sporting regulations, this is the most recent car the team is permitted to use.
This is due to the Testing of Previous Cars programme which allows the teams to use cars which are at least two years old, meaning the SF-23 is the most recent car available to him.

Although this car will not be similar to what he will drive later in the year for the 2025 season, it will allow the seven-time world champion to get comfortable with several factors, such as his seating position and steering wheel controls. It will also allow him to start building a camaraderie with his new engineering team.
It will also allow the seven-time world champion to get used to Ferrari power as the world champion driver has only ever driven with Mercedes power for his entire F1 career.
Ahead of the test, Hamilton also revealed his 2025 race helmet, which features a predominantly yellow design with splashes of red throughout, including his race number, 44, and the iconic Ferrari logo.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
