With the championship on the line, and able to be secured this weekend, McLaren need a strong weekend unlike Las Vegas last time out. As such, the Papaya-coloured bounced back to secure a 1-2 victory in the final sprint race of the season.
Norris lined up on pole position and got a good launch off the line to defend his position from second-placed Mercedes driver, George Russell.
As a result of the defensive manoeuvre, it put the Mercedes under pressure – heading into T2 – by the following McLaren Piastri who quickly overtook the Silver Arrow.
The two McLarens lead with control, despite moments of pressure on Piastri from Russell.
30 points between them. 88 points still up for grabs.

As Norris curled around the final lap, after leading all 19 laps of the race, the Briton slowed to allow Piastri through on the line, giving back the gifted win Norris took in Brazil – when he was in contention for the driver’s championship.
Russell rounded out the top three in third, four-tenths off the win, behind Piastri and Norris.
The Ferrari’s duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc completed the final sprint in fourth and fifth. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed the point-scoring positions in; sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
