McLaren is set to show off a bespoke, Ayrton Senna-inspired livery on their Formula 1 championship cars during the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, this week.

This year marks the 30th anniversary since the F1 legend, Senna, passed away at the Imola circuit which held the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix last weekend.

However, McLaren is set to represent their former driver in Monaco this weekend.

In collaboration with Senna Brand and the team’s official primary sponsor, OKX, McLaren will scrap their traditional papaya for the late world champion’s iconic colours.

In the announcement, Bianca Senna said:

“It’s an honour to recognise Ayrton through these liveries in collaboration with both McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through his iconic colours on both cars.

“McLaren meant a lot to him, and together they achieved a lot of success, much of which he is still remembered for today by so many. It will be special to see it race the streets of Monaco, a circuit which gave him so much joy and many triumphs.”

The new colour scheme will consist of yellow, green and blue which is taken from inspiration from Senna’s helmet.

The iconic yellow shade will predominately replace the papaya colour scheme on McLaren’s MCL60 with the rear section of the car, plus the rear wing will be green. The nose will remain yellow but will be sectioned off with blue, incorporating the iconic Senna ‘S’.

Monaco was chosen as the venue to display this livery as the Principality is synonymous with the late world champion having secured six victories on the iconic Monaco streets, dubbing him the ‘King of Monaco.’

“The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” said McLaren Racing CEO, Zak Brown. “Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver.

“His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also his presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.”

Senna raced for McLaren from 1988 to 1993 and went on to claim 35 of his 41 career victories plus all of his world titles in 1988, 1990 and 1991.

During that time, the late Brazilian helped deliver four consecutive constructors’ world championships for the team from 1988 to 1991.
