Max Verstappen led Red Bull to their 31st one-two finish ahead of Sergio Perez, at the Japanese Grand Prix, but where did the rest of the field filter out during the race?

It was a dry and sunny race in Japan as the defending world champion took his 57th career race win at the Suzuka International Race Course, but it was not without issue.

A red flag halted proceedings on the first lap after two former Red Bull drivers, RB’s Daniel Ricciardo and Williams’ Alexander Albon, crashed out at turn three.

Ricciardo, taking the racing line heading into T3, collided with Albon and both cars were sent into the barriers. Both drivers reported they were okay and were seen outside of the cars.

However, this was not the only retirement of the race, as Kick Sauber’s Guanyu Zhou pulled into his garage to retire on lap 12.

In the end, Verstappen took the chequered flag 12.5 seconds ahead of Perez to give the team their 31st one-two finish, and third 1-2 of the season.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who remains without a seat in 2025, maintains his 100% record of appearing on the podium in every race he starts as he rounded out the podium in third.

Charles Leclerc followed his podium-scoring teammate as the driver who was best of the rest, in fourth, and McLaren’s Lando Norris completed the top five.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso led the rest of the drivers in the top 10, down in sixth, ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell (P7) who benefitted from a lock-up from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri (P8) on the penultimate lap, at the final corners.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completed the race in ninth after he offered to swap positions with Russell in the early stages.

Despite being a lap down, RB’s Yuki Tsunoda became the first Japanese driver to secure points in the last 12 years, at their home race, he finished the Japanese round in 10th.

Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg led the remaining seven drivers, in 11th, ahead of his teammate Kevin Magnussen who finished P13. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was sandwiched in between the two Haas cars in 12th.

Valtteri Bottas, of Kick Sauber, occupied 14th ahead of the two Alpine’s of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly who finished 15th and 16th respectively.

Williams’ Logan Sargeant had a relatively good race but it all came to nothing as he brought out the yellow flags late on.

The American understeered off the circuit, at the second Degner corner (T9) but he managed to reverse back out onto the circuit to finish 17th, the last of the drivers to finish.
