McLaren Racing are set to run a livery designed by Japanese artist MILTZ, for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, as part of the teams ‘Driven by Change’ campaign.

On Wednesday, McLaren Racing and Vuse revealed a new livery design which will be showcased on the teams MCL38 for the Japanese GP race weekend, piloted by both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

The design, created by MILTZ, is inspired by Edomoji which is ‘traditional’ Japanese calligraphy which has been fused with modern art and culture.  MILTZ took inspiration from previous Vuse and McLaren liveries and utilised the ‘wild lines of Rabab Tantawy’s Nubians’ to create the design.

The bespoke livery has been created to represent the sheer speed of a Formula 1 car through the form of a ‘dragon racing though the clouds.’

On the design, the livery artist, MILTZ said:

“When I first became a freelance artist, I never thought an opportunity like this was possible – this is the biggest international project I have ever done!

“As I continue to build my profile as an artist, I want my artwork to champion the rich traditions of Japanese writing culture, such as Edomoji, but with a modern twist.

“From my work with local businesses in Japan to the McLaren Formula 1 Team, there are so many beautiful stories to tell through art.”

This will be the fourth season where the Driven by Change campaign has been used by the team, which has opened the door for ‘emerging creatives’ to gain opportunities to showcase their artwork.

The campaign provides creatives with the global motorsport platform to show off their work to the world.

“We are really excited to bring Driven by Change to Japan for the 2024 iteration of the campaign alongside our partner Vuse,” said Louise McEwen, McLaren Racing’s Chief Marketing Officer.

“Now in its fourth year, we have seen the successes of the campaign in showcasing the incredible creativity of these talented and undiscovered artists for the world to see on our race cars.”

That’s all for the article; McLaren to run ‘Driven by Change’ livery for Japanese GP!
