Fight erupts at Mexico Grand Prix amongst fans
29th October 2023Emotions ran high, during the Mexico City Grand Prix, as a fight broke out among fans at the famous stadium section of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
During the Grand Prix, a fight erupted among several fans at the Mexico City Grand Prix’s famous stadium section, the Foro Sol Stadium. Many fans would have been present in support of their home hero and Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez.
A video quickly circulated on social media of the fight as Verstappen cruised his way to a record-breaking win of the season. A man in a white t-shirt was seen beating two other fans who wore – what seemed to be – Ferrari merchandise.
The fight was soon brought to a quick end as another spectator grabbed the aggressive spectator in a rear chokehold in a bid to calm the fan before being brought down in the bleachers.
The Mexico Grand Prix, on their official X account, confirmed the spectator had been removed from the circuit.
The fight looked to be instigated as a result of high emotions following the turn-one incident between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Perez.
Mexico’s Perez was not able to survive a single lap of his home race as he was taken out by Leclerc into the first corner. Both Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Perez got a good start off the line and sandwiched Leclerc into turn one.
Contact was inevitably made between Leclerc and Perez as the latter was set into the air and onto the run-off area. Ferrari’s Monegasque was able to continue on with survivable damage to his front wing but Perez was ordered to pit at the end of the lap and retire with extensive damage.
This incident will not go down well with the sport and their respective teams who have brought in a new initiative this season, Racepect, which is meant to increase respect on and off the track within the F1 community.
