Pierre Gasly recieves warning for driving slowly in Brazil
12th November 2022Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly has ben issued with a warning for driving around the circuit very slowly, on his recon laps ahead of the Sprint Race in Brazil.
Gasly was given a warning for failing to follow the race directors instructions, ahead of the final sprint race of the season in Brazil. The breach was in relation to point 4.1 in the Race Directors event notes.
As per the directors notes, prior to the event, the drivers are expected to hit a minimum lap time as well as a maximum time.
The Alpha Tauri driver was found to have recorded a time of 1:14.185 around the Sao Paulo circuit, Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, two-seconds over the allotted time.
In the document, the race stewards said:
“The Stewards took into account that there were people on the grid just after SC Line 1, however the driver is responsible for driving the required speed during the entire lap.
“The Race Director’s Note to Teams (document 20) specified a maximum time of 1:12.0 between the Safety Car lines and car 10 recorded a time of 1:14.185.”
Fortunately, Gasly was able to avoid accruing any more penalty-points to his super licence as the French driver stands on the verge of a race ban.
The Alpha Tauri driver currently has 10 penalty points on his super licence and if he obtains 12, Gasly will be issued with a race ban under the current rules.
