Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel under investigation in Australian Grand Prix
8th April 2022Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel is under investigation after the first practice session of the Australian Grand Prix weekend as the German driver returned to the track, on a scooter.
Through the first free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix, in Melbourne, Vettel was forced to retire by the side of the track after his internal engine failed on him.
The session was quickly red flagged to removed the stranded AMR22 – after Vettel extinguished a potential fire in his car, as smoke was seen puffing out its rear.
However, after the session, Vettel was seen riding back to the pit lane on a marshal’s trackside scooter with his helmet nestled on the top of his head.
As a result, the four-time world champion was placed under investigation for entering the track without permission.
Under article 26.7, which regards general safety, the sporting regulation states that no one is allowed to be on track in the five minutes after every practice session – unless you’re exempt (e.g. a marshal or authorised person executing their duty).
A hearing will likely be heard ahead of second practice.
