Felix Rosenqvist, who drives for Arrow McLaren SP in the real version of Indycar, secured the win in the main race for the sports inaugural eSports event.

Rosenqvist, who was winless in the 2021 Indycar season, made a great start to his 2022 after he secured the win to the motorsports inaugural esports challenge.

The Swedish driver beat the likes of Dale Coyne Racing’s David Malukas, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Sage Karam and Chip Ganassi’s Marcus Ericson by 3.010 seconds, on the final lap.

The top three finishers secured donations to a charity of their choice with Rosenqvist winning $10,000, Malukas $8,000 and Karam $5,000. While Ericsson secured $2,500 for his charity of choice through an entrant lottery amongst the remaining 20 drivers.

How Rosenqvist won the race…

Rosenqvist started second in the main feature race, with Karam on pole position after he won the second heat. While Dreyer & Reinbold’s naturally took the lead of the race, Rosenqvist & Malukas fought fiercely side-by-side for second place.

With 11 minutes left on the clock – from 20 minutes – Rosenqvist made a move under Malukas into turn one. With second place secured, the Swedish drive switched his focus onto Karam, who was still leading the race.

Karam was forced to yield the lead of the race to Rosenqvist, with just over nine minutes left. The move was done and dusted on the outside of turn seven, at the end of the back straight.

The event came to fruition after an agreement was met between Motorsport Games, a major racing game developer, and Indycar in July 2021.

The real-life NTT Indycar season is set to begin at the 2022 Firestorm Grand Prix at St. Petersburg on Sunday, February 27.
