Some of the famous Indycar faces taking part in the event consist of; Chip Gannassi reigning champion, Alex Palou, Meyer Shark Racing’s Helio Castroneuves and Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden.

The virtual racing will take place on the rFactor2 PC platform, with the track being decided for an added element of excitement.

The structure of the event will be set into three parts:

  • Random draw starting grid
  • Points will be awarded

Heat 2

  • 10-minute duration
  • Starting grid order to be the reverse of Heat 1
  • Points will be awarded

Race

  • Double points will be awarded

The event will be available for all to see as it will be broadcasted on Traxion.GG Twitch, YouTube and Facebook. In addition, viewers will be able to watch the full race day on the Indycar YouTube channel.

The drivers who finish in the top three of the race will also recieve a healthy donation to their chosen charity. The first-place finisher will recieve $10,000, second place: $8,000 and third place will get $5,000, plus an entrant lottery of $2,500.

SJ Luedtke, Indycar’s Vice President of marketing said:

“INDYCAR fans are a passionate, global audience hungry for quality motorsports gaming content.

“With our partners at Motorsport Games, we are now able to bring those same fans a premier virtual esports experience while also cultivating a new base of INDYCAR supporters and followers.

“We cannot wait for everyone to see the first-ever INDYCAR-Motorsport Games Pro Challenge this year, and we are thrilled to keep producing these events in the many years to follow.”

An Indycar game is also in the works and is expected to be released some time in 2023.
