Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll re-sign for Aston Martin in 2027
30th September 2026Aston Martin has confirmed they will retain Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll for next season with both drivers extending their current contracts with the Silverstone-based team.

Speculation has been revolving around Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso, with whispers in the air of potential retirement for the two-time world champion. Whilst Lance Stroll was more-than-less expected to retain his seat at the team.
However, this announcement has put Alonso’s speculation to bed as the team confirmed they will keep the same line up for next season.
The team has claimed this decision will allow Aston Martin to ‘fully focus’ on development whilst increasing their relationships with the two drivers.
In the announcement, Alonso said:
“I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin Aramco. I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level.
“I’m committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.
“I truly believe in what we are building: we have strong leadership, incredible people, partners and facilities. I look forward to making more memories on the racetrack in front of the passionate fans. Their energy creates an atmosphere that inspires me and is what makes our sport special.”

It has been a bit of a painful year for the Silverstone-based team, with reliability woes at the beginning of the season, including pre-season testing and throughout, plus the painful performance levels of its AMR26.
Of the full-time drivers, Stroll stands as the lowest-ranked drivers of kilometres raced at 2662km, compared to Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, who leads on 4,523km. Additionally, the team stand overall the most unreliable team on the grid with the least kilometres raced at 6128km, 688km less than their closest rival Cadillac (6,816km).
With speculation on Alonso’s retirement, the Spaniard also made a cheeky move to leave a video message on their announcement, reminiscent of Sebastian Vettel’s retirement video. In that video, Alonso said:
“F1 has been great to me. I had an incredible career. I travelled around the world. I raced for more than 23 years, more than 400 Grand Prixs, and I achieved more than what I ever dreamed of.
“It took me a little bit of time to make my decision, but now I have things very clear in my mind. I will retire from Formula 1… but not yet.”
The continuation of the Alonso/Stroll pairing marks the teams same-driver line-up for the fifth consecutive season, after Alonso replaced Vettel for the 2023 season, joining Stroll who had been with the team since 2019, when they competed under the Racing Point brand.
