Pirelli begins test at Hungaroring for 2027 tyres

Pirelli has begun testing at the Hungaroring, testing their 2027 tyres, ahead of the Formula 1 summer break, with three teams taking part.

Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, F1 cars remained in action ahead of the two-week summer shutdown, as Pirelli went back to work testing their 2027 tyres with a two-day test.

The test began on Tuesday, with three teams running Pirelli’s programme: Audi, Aston Martin and Alpine, with Gabriel Bortoleto, Jak Crawford and Franco Colapinto taking part, respectively.

According to Pirelli, the drivers completed screening runs of the C3 tyre options, allowing performance and degradation characteristics to be assessed through long runs.

Colapinto and Bortoleto put several C4 and C5 variants through high-mileage stints and qualifying simulations, as part of the programme.

Colapinto was the fastest driver of the day, with a 1m 20.371s lap around the Hungaroring, with 128 laps completed. However, it was Bortoleto who put in the most mileage, with 141 laps completed (roughly 618km), and put in the second-best time of 1m 20.813s.

Crawford, on the other hand, managed to complete 136 laps, with a best time of 1m 24.598s.

Bortoleto and Colapinto will be back out on track on Wednesday with a similar programme to the one they completed on Tuesday.
