As per the usual process, the FIA will complete scrutineering checks on the cars after the grand prix to ensure compliance with the regulations of Formula 1.

Everyone passed with compliance against the tests last weekend, of those who were tested, as nothing was flagged up to the stewards. However, ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, the FIA has confirmed that George Russell’s Mercedes was subject to extensive tests.

It is a standard procedure for the FIA to select a top-10 car at random to complete these extra tests, and Mercedes was the first to be selected in 2026.

In the FIA document, they confirmed that they selected Russell’s W17 and completed extra tests relating to the front wing, which were to be found within compliance of the technical regulations. They said:

“After the race in Melbourne car number 63 was randomly chosen among the top ten cars for more extensive physical inspections.

“The front wing adjuster system components were reviewed for compliance with Articles C3.10 and C8 of the regulations and were found to be compliant.”

The Chinese Grand Prix, the first sprint race of the weekend, will get underway on Friday at 11:30am (local) with the only practice session of the weekend, ahead of sprint qualifying later on in the day.
